At Least 8 Killed In Texas High School Shooting

Between eight to 10 people were killed in a shooting today at a high school in Santa Fe, Texas, after a gunman, believed to be a student, fired several shots in a classroom.

Explosive devices have been found in and around the school, Santa Fe police chief Jeff Powell said at a press conference.

Mr Powell added that six injured, including one police officer, have been transported to hospitals.

The Santa Fe Independent School District had earlier said in a tweet that the "school has been evacuated" because of the explosives.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez later confirmed in a tweet that a male suspect - a 17-year-old student at the school - was in custody, while another student had been detained. He also confirmed that one police officer had been injured and was being treated, but that the "extent of his injuries are unknown".

Mr Gonzalez confirmed in a subsequent media briefing that there were multiple casualties, including students and staff.
